I may be writing this after the fact, sorry about that. Actually my SO (significant other) and I wanted to get out of town. So we are doing an Alaska cruise early September. We will be joined by his brother in law and his new girl friend. We’ve all lost our spouses so that’s why the confusion with titles.
It was the first time we had traveled with the BIL and his girlfriend. It was and interesting cruise. It was 9 days. We left out of Seattle, and arrived there two days early in order to spend some time in Seattle. It was fun. It was fun both in Seattle and on the cruise. It was a good time overall.
The one problem we had was the food. Now to me that is unusual. All of us had issues with the food. Three our of four of us had been on cruises and had an idea of what to expect. And usually on a cruise you expect good to great food. But this time, that was not exactly what we experienced. For the first time I could say the food was subpar. The chicken was the worse. I had never had chicken soup where the chicken was dry and tough. On this cruise, that was what I experienced.
The music on the cruise was okay. There was one group that played country, rather well to be honest. They did a tribute to Brooks and Dunn and did a great job. Some of the other musicians were a bit more comical to me. Sometimes when groups do Elvis impersonations it can get quite … interesting shall we say! Loud does not always equal good. Sometimes it’s just loud.
But all things considered, I’m glad we went. An Alaska cruise is well, an Alaska cruise. I’ve probably done a few, oh like 5 or 6 Alaska cruise. So I’ve done most of the ports more than once. We did do excursion on our own at Skagway. It was a bus/train excursion. We crossed the border into Canada, and had to take our passports with us. It was actually a nice excursion. Cold, but nice. I was glad we did it.
But one issue was my SO did not enjoy himself. He didn’t like the ship, it was too big and he kept getting lost. He wasn’t happy. He didn’t like the food overall. There may have been a meal here and there he liked, but not much. As that matter goes, he said he doesn’t want to do another cruise.
SO and I will take another cruise later this year. I just have to convince him.
